Volunteer!

Without the support of volunteers, it is hard to keep up the work in Ghana. That is why you are very welcome to work temporarily in the orphanage. It is an experience that you will value for the rest of your life. From spring 2009 on, we have a volunteers’ home where we can facilitate 4 to 6 volunteers. Some volunteers must share their accommodation with another volunteer. By now we have a beautiful volunteers’ home. Every room has its own shower and toilet. Volunteers are responsible for the upkeep and cleaning of their own accommodations.

Help is always needed and we warmly invite you to come to Ghana and support the orphanage. Age and experience are of no importance, Motivation and persistence, on the other hand, are fundamental. On average three people per week sign up for volunteer work with Mariëtte and Moses.

By now we have so many applications that we have enough volunteers to help us until spring 2010. Very many people come back after their first visit to Hanukkah. What attracts many of them is the fact that the organisation is very small scale. Moreover, many return because of their bond with the children.

Three or four weeks is not enough for many volunteers. Just as you get to know the kids and the way of life in Hanukkah you need to leave already. Returning volunteers offer continuity and friendship to further deepen the bonds made with the foundation and of course the children. They are very happy, every time they see familiar faces.
