17-06-2010 - Life goes on…
It has not been less than half a year that a new container has been waiting to be shipped, standing in Beverwijk. The main reason for sending another one (after the two that are already in Sunyani) are the twenty beds that were donated by the day-nursery Forte in Castricum.Although we never planned to send another container, we could not withstand this offer. From that moment on, there was no way to stop the flow of the most beautiful, practical, disgusting and useless things that were dumped at our door.
Those last categories were the reason why we often drove to the container with boxes full of new material that we had not taken a look at and thereby postponing the problem.
On Saturday 5 June – a nice and sunny day – some twenty people decided what was suitable to go to Ghana and what was not.
People from the entire country gave up their days off to help digging into numerous boxes and bags of books, clothes, of course the beds, an airco, toys, sports material, medical equipment, too much to mention.
We were very glad to see that people were concerned about the Ghanaian cold, because we found ski outfits and beautiful, but useless winter clothes. All of this was taken to be sent to a children’s home in Romania.
We were very surprised to find a box full of opened bottles of alcohol. People sometimes have strange ideas of what could be useful for children in Africa.
An impression of this day, with gratitude for all the help and company!
