05-11-2009 - €72,000 raised with the New York Marathon!!!

Jeroen Boekel ran the marathon of New York successfully in 3 hours and 53 minutes at 1 November 2009.

Jeroen Boekel, friend and secretary of the Mariette’s Child Care Foundation ran the Marathon of New York for the children of Hanukkah.

More than half a year of training, as well as a fabulous fundraising campaign and the never ending support of his family resulted in a wonderful Marathon of Hope in three hours and 53 minutes.

This achievement was to be read in the New York Times of Monday 2 November. It stated all the runners who finished within five hours time.

In Ghana too, they supported him wholeheartedly. The children, workers, volunteers and Mariette and Moses all ran some rounds around the summerhut to encourage Jeroen. Even the doctor from the regional hospital, who visits Hanukkah once a week participated!

After that they sang and danced until Jeroen was finished. They called him immediately when he was ready and sang for him to thank him for his unmatched achievement, which resulted in €72,000 thanks to the help of Slokker construction company and many others.
We would like to thank everyone for their support in the form of e-mails, textmessages, cards and survival packages.

With this amount of money, Hanukkah can cover the operating costs for more than a year! Hopefully this even allows the Mariettes Child Care Foundation to realize a new school building in one of the surrounding villages where children are still taught in wretched conditions.

The 30 children living in Hanukkah are not the only ones who profit from Jeroen’s wonderful accomplishment. More than 20 children outside the orphanage are also supported by Mariette and Moses thanks to the Marathon of Hope.

A reply to our guestbook would be very much appreciated.

Mariette’s Child Care and Hanukkah Children’s Home are most grateful to Jeroen Boekel for his unbelievable, sporty contribution.
