Children’s book ‘Obruni, Obruni’
A very special initiative was undertaken by Marieke Dijkers, who has volunteered several times in Hanukkah. She has made a dream come true by writing a children’s book ‘Obruni, Obruni’.
The book describes an important year in the life of Jolien. Her father is sent to Ghana to work there for a year and the family moves with him, although Jolien, 13 years old, is very reluctant. In Sunyani, she meets the Dutch Mari, who is married to a Ghanaian man and has set up an orphanage.
The book is meant for children aged ten to thirteen. For more information, take a look at: www.mariekedijkers.com All the profit goes directly to the Mariëttes Child Care Foundation.
By now, Marieke has developed class material so that the book can also be read at school. The first print (600 copies) was sold out very quickly so that a second and even a third print followed.
